Dr. Paleshwan Joshi Lakhey
Dr Paleswan Joshi Lakhey is the Consultant Gastrointestinal and Hepatopancreatobiliary (GI and HPB) surgeon doing all complex GI and HPB surgeries, including therapeutic ERCP with special interest in cancer and non-cancer surgery of stomach, gall bladder, bile duct and pancreas. She believes in the fact that surgeon is one of the prognostic factors in cancer treatment and perioperative outcomes, margin negative resection, adequate lymphadenectomy and the long-term outcome in terms of survival, are the surrogate markers of quality of surgery in cancer surgery.
She did her SLC from St Mary’s High School, Jawalakhel in 1986, and received Ratna Bidya Padak for being second among girls in SLC. She did her high school from Amrit Science College and received Aishwarya Bidya Padak for being first among girls in Intermediate in Science. She did her MBBS from Fatima Jinnah Medical College for Women from Lahore, Pakistan in 1996. She did her MS in General Surgery from Institute of Medicine, Kathmandu, Nepal in 2001. She is a gold medalist in MS General Surgery. She has also done MCh in Surgical Gastroenterology (GI and HPB Surgery) from Institute of Medicine in 2011. She received intensive short-term training in Gastrointestinal and Pancreatobiliary Onco-surgery from Seoul National University Hospital, Seoul, South Korea in 2009. In 2018, she did four-week observership in HPB surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre at New York as the travelling fellow of Society of Surgery for Alimentary tract (SSAT) from Developing Nation.
She is also the Professor and Head of the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology, teaching all levels of medical students, postgraduate residents and MCh residents at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj Medical Campus, Institute of Medicine which is the premier institute in Nepal. She has made numerous presentations in various conferences as well as published numerous publications in national and international peer-reviewed journals.
